Pros and cons of Microsoft Excel app for iPhone and iPad

Microsoft Excel app good for

Love this app and use it on both my iPad mini 2 and iPhone 5S. Would be nice if there was a tab button on the keyboard.
Very easy to navigate, although a few more formatting options would be helpful.
LOVE, LOVE IT. I love being able to edit my spreadsheets on the fly from my iPad and then save them in Dropbox.
Great app, I am retired and use excel to keep track which row I completed in knitting / crochet patterns. Absolutely love Excel
The ability to create -Edit -Share on the go has added a great advantage to the way I can use spreadsheet, thanks a ton.
I keep discovering ways to format and handle spreadsheets. The help files dont always have the answers. Would love to be able to open a sheet with macros without it deleting all of them. Maybe ignoring them on the iPad would be a better option. All in all a very good product.

Some bad moments

Several minutes to load a larger spreadsheet. That I can live with. Its the weekly requests to constantly re-activate the various MS Office products that is annoying and a show-stopper if you happen to be in a non-WiFi area. Google Sheets is much quicker and doesnt ever ask for sign-ins unless you have a new device.
App is constantly crashing. Especially when importing from mail or online storage.
I would have rated this 4 or 5 stars but I have to knock off a few stars because you cant use it with an external keyboard. Its frustrating that the best basic function, editing a cell, is actually more difficult with the external keyboard. Hitting F2 to edit the cell stupidly controls the brightness. This is probably Apples fault because they dont really want people using iPads this way but it makes excel useless. No combination of modifiers seems to work here. Perhaps worse, if you manage to begin editing a cell you cannot cancel it by hitting ESC? This is truly dumb. If Apple wants to boost iPad sales and MS wants people to pay for Excel then this has to be fixed. Sheesh.
DO NOT TRUST EXCEL ON ICLOUD. I had a spreadsheet I normally update and access only from my Mac, but store it on iCloud so I can peek at it from my phone, etc. Today, I loaded the spreadsheet on my iPad, but it showed a version from a month ago. I checked from my phone, and now that old version had propagated to iCloud. Apple trusts apps to maintain those files, so there is no recovery mechanism. Excel is OK with local files, if youre diligent with Time Machine. DO NOT trust it to store its files in iCloud.
It seems that when excel is updated, something is fixed, while something new is now broken. When I try to connect to box, it says no network connection. Also says same thing in word. Does this on 2 different iPads. I can load Dropbox no problem, but not box. Please fix.
You actually prompted me for a review after you broke the app and made it unusable? Brilliant. No longer opens Dropbox files - says they are corrupted. Files open fine on my Mac. Biggest software company in the world releases an app with a fatal flaw (plus still havent fixed it a week and a half later).
